Partners in Education
Activities such as mentoring, career day, red ribbon week sponsorships, and special events throughout the school year are just part of the fun of Cobb EMC's participation in the Partners in Education program.
Provided in conjunction with the Cobb and Cherokee Chambers of Commerce, as well as Bartow and Paulding County Schools, the five "partner" schools are:
East Cobb's Timber Ridge Elementary
Boston Elementary in Woodstock
Allatoona Elementary in Bartow County
Due West Elementary in West Cobb
Russom Elementary in Paulding County
A Mentor Program gives participating students a chance to have a Cobb EMC employee provide encouragement to succeed.
Career Day allows students an opportunity to apply for a specific position at Cobb EMC. If the child is "hired," the student spends a partial day working at the position.
During "Give Our Schools A Hand Week," Cobb EMC does something special for our partner schools, such as recognize teachers in a show of support for public education in Cobb County.
Other programs and activities include:
- Electric Avenue safety demonstrations.
- The distribution of educational material, by request, on electrical safety or conservation programs.
- Providing employees for judging of events/school activities.
- Sponsoring the "News for Kids" program at the elementary, middle school, and high school level. Published as part of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, the program assists teachers in bringing current and relevant information into the classroom.
- Sponsoring the Cherokee County Elementary Science Olympiad and Science Fair, devoted to increasing student interest in science.
- A partner school provides entertainment for the annual meeting.
- A Cobb EMC Christmas Card contest, which awards the winning student a $50 gift certificate. A framed print of the finished card is given to the school and the student.
- Students come to the Cobb EMC office and sing holiday songs to the employees.
