Mentoring Makes a Difference

At the beginning of each school year, many Cobb Energy employees are paired with students at Allatoona Elementary in Bartow County and Timber Ridge Elementary in Cobb County. The students benefit from the guidance and compassion that the employees provide and form friendships through several visits held at the school throughout the year, as well as an end-of-the-year party. Some employees don't have the time to devote to the traditional mentoring program, but still want to make an impact and benefit a child. Such employees can participate in e-mentoring, which allows those employees who can't visit a student to develop a relationship and encourage the child through company e-mail once per week. In addition, employees meet students at least twice during the year: at the beginning of the year to meet the child and again at the end-of-the-year party to celebrate completing another school year.

Employees recently met their students or re-connected with children for whom they have mentored for several years. For example, Nancy Hodges, Employment Recruiter, has been a longstanding mentor at Timber Ridge Elementary. She typically starts mentoring a kindergarten student and stays with him or her through fifth grade. Hodges is currently mentoring her third student, and said, "What a privilege to serve the community and make a positive impact on the lives of children."

Cobb EMC is proud to enable employees to participate in this worthwhile adventure and encourage our future leaders — our children — to excel at whatever they do.
