About the Smart Choice Rate

smart energy saver

The Smart Choice Rate is an innovative rate program that gives you a simple way to reduce your annual electric bill. Best of all, Smart Choice makes budgeting easy by minimizing fluctuation in power bills.

The Smart Choice Rate and your bill

By lowering your use during peak hours just a little, you can lower your annual cost of service. With the Smart Choice Rate, your peak service charge is determined by the highest energy need that you demand during Cobb EMC’s peak hours. The peak service charge that you set will affect your rate for up to the next 12 months. That’s why it’s important to conserve energy during peak hours.

Check out our toolkit for tips and tools to save energy during peak hours.

Let’s take a look at three scenarios* using the same amount of electricity

Know your peak hours

Peak hours are determined by the times of day when energy is in highest demand. Cobb EMC’s peak hours usually occur in a five-hour window from June through September, between 2-7 p.m. On specified days when peak use heightens – peak days – we’ll ask you to conserve energy from 2-7 p.m. during peak hours.
