April is Safe Digging Month

Call Before You Dig Georgia 811

April 1 marks the beginning of Safe Digging Month, a nationally recognized holiday dedicated to promote the importance of safe digging. Cobb EMC and other utilities celebrate Safe Digging Month by educating and providing resources to the public about safe digging procedures.

Safe Digging is the law. Georgia law requires individuals to contact Georgia 811 before beginning any mechanized digging or excavation work. Even if you're planning a smaller, non-mechanized digging project, we encourage you to contact Georgia 811 to ensure your safety and the safety of others. Smaller projects can include landscaping, planting trees or installing a mailbox.

Why is safe digging so important? Your safety depends on it. Utility lines, including gas and electric, are often placed underground. Calling 811 before you dig protects you from coming into contact with buried utilities. Rupturing a gas line could result in an explosion or fire and striking underground power lines could cause electric shock or death. Know what’s below and call before you dig.

How can you celebrate Safe Digging Month? It’s easy! Help us celebrate Safe Digging Month by educating your friends and family about Georgia 811.
