Home Energy Efficiency Makeover awarded to local mother

Cobb EMC, in partnership with Gas South and the Cobb Heating and Air Association, awarded Barbara Bryant, a local mother of four, with a Home Energy Efficiency Makeover worth more than $20,000.

“It’s heartwarming to see how this annual event brings together members of our community,” said Kevan Espy, senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. “This year, we received 70 nominations from neighbors across our service district. What began as an event designed to teach our co-op members that home energy improvements can lower their energy consumption and help them save money has evolved into a larger community effort between local businesses and residents.”

Bryant, who is a Cobb EMC member and has lived in her Marietta, Ga. home for nearly 20 years, was nominated by neighbor, Gwen Tritt. When asked about the winner, Tritt said, “Barbara works three jobs to support her children, and she has raised outstanding, well-mannered kids. She always keeps a positive attitude, and she really deserves this makeover.”

Tritt surprised and celebrated her neighbor, alongside representatives from Cobb EMC and event sponsors. This year’s makeover included a variety of home energy improvements including new energy-efficient appliances, a bill credit from Cobb EMC, two years of free natural gas service from Gas South, new low-flow faucet adapters, showerheads and toilets from the Cobb County Water System, and a new HVAC unit, water heater, and other energy efficiency improvements from members of the Cobb Heating and Air Conditioning Association.

“It’s great to see such a deserving community member chosen as the winner of the home energy efficiency makeover,” said Kevin Greiner, Gas South president and CEO. “Installing more efficient appliances and insulation, and having two years of free natural gas will provide Barbara Bryant with a comfortable home and cost savings. We’re proud to partner with Cobb EMC and Cobb Heating and Air Association to make this possible – business relationships like this benefit all community members.”

This year’s sponsors include: Cobb Heating & Air Conditioning Association, Gas South, Apex Supply Company, D. McKeon Heating & Air, E. Smith Heating & Air Conditioning, GUS HVAC, Reliable Heating & Air, Ed’s Supply Company, Controlled Climate Services, Wade Heating & Air Conditioning, Cobb County Water System, Quality Air, the Dillon Agency, Henssler Financial, Farmers Inc., Mingledorff’s Inc., Pointeworth and Casteel Heating, Cooling, Plumbing and Electrical.

“Anytime you do anything to fix up your home or environment, you feel better. I thought the makeover program was awesome, but I never thought I’d win!” said winner Bryant. “I do everything because I love my kids. I want to see them in a position where they can take care of themselves, be self-sufficient and be happy along the way.”
