Cobb EMC Winter Weather Updates

8:30 p.m.: Winter Storm Fern is expected to make its way through our service area tonight and cause freezing rain, strong gusts of wind, extremely cold temperatures, and icy conditions.
As we continue to monitor weather conditions, our crews are staged and ready to respond and restore power as quickly and safely as possible as soon as conditions allow. We worked with statewide agencies and secured additional contract crews from across the Southeast to help with our restoration efforts.
While we can’t predict exactly how severe outages may be, we encourage our members to prepare for any potential lengthy outages that may occur. If you rely on electricity-based medical equipment or refrigerated medications, please make alternate arrangements and call 911 in case of an emergency.

We understand that some members may need additional assistance during this time. Below is a list of nonprofits and organizations in our service area offering assistance. Please reach out to these organizations directly for more information.
The USDA states that a full freezer will hold a safe temperature for approximately 48 hours if the door remains closed and 24 hours if it is half full. Your refrigerator will keep food safe for up to 4 hours during a power outage. Never taste food to determine its safety. If you or a family member requires medical devices powered by electricity or medicine that requires refrigeration, it's important to have a plan in place. Talk with your medical provider about your power outage plan and explore backup power or alternative care options before an outage occurs. If an emergency situation arises, please call 911 for assistance.
Be Safe Around Downed Lines
Cold temperatures and ice can cause dangerous situations, including downed power lines. Always avoid downed power lines, as they could be live, which could be deadly for those nearby. Always report downed lower lines or trees on lines as quickly and safely as possible.
Have a Plan for Your Electric Medical Devices
If you or a family member requires electricity-powered medical devices or refrigerated medicine, talk with your medical provider about your power outage plan. We encourage our members to prepare now by identifying an emergency support network and making alternate arrangements if needed. If an emergency situation arises, please call 911 for assistance.
