Cobb EMC Foundation awards more than $1 million to local nonprofits

Member‑powered giving continues to create lasting impact across the community

The Cobb EMC Foundation has announced a new round of charitable grants for nonprofit organizations serving communities within Cobb EMC’s service area. This year, the Foundation has awarded more than $1 million to nonprofits that strengthen families, expand educational opportunities, address basic needs, and improve quality of life across the region.

Since 2013, the Foundation has contributed more than $10 million to local nonprofits. These grants are funded entirely through Operation Round Up, a program in which Cobb EMC members voluntarily round their electric bills up to the nearest dollar. Members typically contribute about fifty cents per month, and 100% of these funds are distributed to organizations that provide vital community services.

“Every dollar entrusted to the Cobb EMC Foundation reflects the extraordinary generosity of our members,” said Carley Stephens, Executive Director of the Cobb EMC Foundation. “Their small monthly contributions create meaningful and lasting impact for our neighbors.”

Grant decisions are made by the Foundation’s board of directors, which carefully reviews each application. The board prioritizes support for organizations that align with the Foundation’s mission, help causes Cobb EMC members care about, and have a proven impact in local communities.

“Serving on the Cobb EMC Foundation Board is both a privilege and a responsibility that we take to heart,” said Thomas Beusse, Board Chair. “We take great care in stewarding these funds, knowing they reflect our members’ trust and generosity. It’s an honor to support organizations making a real difference in our communities.”

The Foundation focuses its giving across five key areas: Education, Family & Youth Services, Military & Veterans, Health, and Animal Welfare. These priorities reflect causes that matter most to Cobb EMC members. This year, $1,016,690 was awarded to 142 organizations.

Nonprofits interested in future funding opportunities are encouraged to visit www.cobbemc.com/Foundation. Applications for 2027 grants will open in September, and organizations must serve communities within Cobb EMC’s service area.
