Simple, Affordable Solar Energy
Are you interested in solar energy but held back by the costs and maintenance, or the restrictions of rooftop systems? With SolarShare, Cobb EMC members can now experience the power of local solar energy without having to install panels at home.
Located on I-75 in Cherokee County, Cobb EMC and Gas South’s SolarShare facility is transforming a once unusable space into a local center for shared solar energy. The expected production of the facility is 1 megawatt, enough to power 200 homes during peak hours.
This unique interstate solar project will be owned as well as maintained by Cobb EMC and Gas South. It is one of few projects approved in the country and only the second one in Georgia.
Limited blocks are available, so reserve yours now by pre-enrolling in SolarShare today!

Here's How It Works
When you sign up for SolarShare, residential members can purchase up to five blocks of solar energy. Every block contains about three solar panels, and you pay a flat, affordable amount per block on your monthly bill. In return, you receive credit on your bill for 150 kWh produced by the panels in your block each month. Commercial members have the flexibility to purchase up to 50 blocks, depending on monthly average load.
SolarShare example bill breakdown:
| Monthly energy usage | 1,200 kWh |
| SolarShare credit: | 150 kWh |
| Final billed usage for the month: | 1,050 kWh |

- This program is available to Cobb EMC members who have received at least one bill and are not already enrolled in the PrePay program or on the Even Bill or NiteFlex rate, and who do not already have rooftop solar on their home.
- Blocks of SolarShare will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Participating in SolarShare, does not grant any ownership rights to the solar panels in the program.
- Residential members may subscribe to up to 5 blocks of SolarShare. Commercial members may subscribe to up to 50 blocks, depending on monthly average load. Energy production per block is fixed.
- A six-month minimum commitment is required, and members may unsubscribe at any time thereafter in writing by emailing gogreen@cobbemc.com.
- If a member unsubscribes from the program, there is a one-year minimum waiting period before being eligible for re-enrollment.
- All members who enroll in SolarShare agree and understand that their billing cycle may change. All SolarShare members are billed around the 10th of each month.
- Members will automatically be unenrolled in the program when they disconnect service with Cobb EMC, including if a member is disconnected for non-payment. There is a one-year minimum waiting period before being eligible for re-enrollment.
- If the facility experiences a sustained outage due to a weather event or other condition that lasts longer than 10 days, members will not be billed for the solar block nor receive any solar offset credit until the outage is resolved the first full month back in operation.
The SolarShare program is designed to allow members an opportunity to participate in solar energy at a lower cost than traditional rooftop solar. It was not created to lower your electric bill.
Only after coming off of the PrePay program and/or changing your residential rate option will you be able to participate in SolarShare. Members participating in PrePay, Even Bill, and NiteFlex are not eligible to participate in SolarShare.
Cobb EMC’s SolarShare project is located in Cherokee County, near the intersection of Highway 92 and I‑75 at exit 277.
There are no upfront costs for enrollment. You will begin paying for SolarShare on the first bill you receive after you start benefiting from SolarShare generation.
Cobb EMC designed this program so that participating members receive the benefits of solar while also covering all relevant costs for the energy they are receiving. Non-participating members are not subsidizing the project in any way. This project will not increase Cobb EMC’s rates.
There is a six-month minimum commitment for SolarShare, with the option to cancel once that period ends. If you cancel the program, there is a one-year minimum waiting period before being eligible for re-enrollment.
If you move from one Cobb EMC home to another home also powered by Cobb EMC, you may continue subscribing to SolarShare at your new address. You may wish to decrease or increase the number of blocks you purchase if your home is dramatically different in size and would use significantly more or less energy. Please be sure to mention this when you transfer service to ensure a smooth transition. If you move to a new home outside of Cobb EMC’s service area, your subscription will discontinue when you move.
Members who already have rooftop solar on their home are not eligible to participate in SolarShare.
