Last Saturday, Cobb EMC helped members make a positive environmental impact by hosting a free Recycle Day event, giving the community a convenient way to responsibly recycle paper and metal while keeping reusable materials out of landfills.
Cobb EMC welcomed more than 1,900 vehicles to its campus drive‑through event, its most ever, demonstrating strong member participation and enthusiasm for sustainability. In total, participants recycled approximately 48,000 pounds of paper and 68,000 pounds of metal, materials that will now be repurposed instead of discarded.
“This event is a great example of how Cobb EMC delivers meaningful value beyond reliable electric service,” said Ross Dicken, Vice President of Member Relations at Cobb EMC. “Recycle Day is a free benefit for our members, and it’s one small but important way we can work together to help the environment.”
The environmental impact of the recycled materials is significant. Based on widely used environmental equivalency standards, the paper and metal recycled at the event equate to benefits such as:
- Saving approximately 409 trees
- Reducing landfill waste by 216 cubic yards
- Avoiding an estimated 297,600 pounds of greenhouse gas emissions
Recycle Day reflects Cobb EMC’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Cobb EMC plans to continue offering programs and events that support sustainability while enhancing the value of cooperative membership.
