Cobb EMC is honored to support the 25th Anniversary 9/11 Field of Flags, a powerful community tribute organized by the Kiwanis Club of Marietta to recognize the nearly 3,000 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

Mark Justice, Cobb EMC’s senior manager of education and community relations, is an active Kiwanis Club member and helped connect the cooperative with the project. Linemen lent their time to install temporary power poles and lighting to ensure the flags are illuminated each evening, allowing visitors to experience the full emotional impact of the display day and night. This is not the first time Cobb EMC has helped to light the battlefield for the Field of Flags display, and the cooperative is proud to continue the tradition.

“Our linemen serve this community every day,” said Toby Mabry, vice president of operations for Cobb EMC. “Lighting this tribute is something our crews take to heart, and contributing to it is a privilege. Our linemen serve this community every day. Those of us who were working here at the time of this tragedy still remember exactly where we were when the news broke.”

The Field of Flags installation invites visitors to reflect and remember as the nation marks 25 years since that day. There is one flag for each life lost on 9/11, creating a moving tribute to the victims, first responders, and families affected by the events of September 11. 

“Our employees live here, raise families here, and care deeply about the members we serve,” added Justice. “Supporting a project that brings our community together is something we’re proud to do.”
