Cobb EMC Seeks Applicants for Youth Leadership Program and Washington Youth Tour

Cobb EMC is now accepting applications from rising high school juniors for its annual Youth Leadership Program, a unique opportunity for students to develop leadership skills, compete for scholarships, and earn a coveted spot on the Washington Youth Tour—an all-expenses-paid, week‑long leadership experience in Washington, D.C.

Each year, the Youth Leadership Program selects outstanding students who demonstrate academic excellence, community involvement, and leadership potential. Participants learn about the cooperative business model, develop leadership skills, connect with peers from across the region, and compete for a total of $10,000 in scholarships, with individual awards ranging from $500 to $2,500. Top finalists also earn the chance to represent Cobb EMC on the Washington Youth Tour, joining hundreds of students from across the country to meet with elected officials, explore historic sites, and engage in discussions about public policy and civic leadership. Many participants also interview for a paid summer internship with Cobb EMC, further expanding their professional experience.

“Cobb EMC has been sending students to Washington to meet with their elected officials and learn more about careers in public service since 1977,” said Mark Justice, Senior Manager of Education and Community Relations at Cobb EMC. “The Cobb EMC Youth Leadership Program, now in its ninth year, is also a unique opportunity for our younger members to gain leadership skills and become better equipped for tomorrow’s leadership roles.”

Students in the Youth Leadership Program competed for scholarships and one of four delegate spots on the 2026 Washington Youth Tour through a two‑part selection process. The first stage was an essay submission, after which the top ten students were invited to a panel interview. Following this evaluation, the following four students were selected to represent Cobb EMC on the 2026 Washington Youth Tour, which took place June 14-21.
    •    Andrew Bailey, a home school student, also won a $2,500 scholarship and intends to major in business.
    •    Hannah Wierson of Kennesaw Mountain High School also won a $2,000 scholarship and intends to major in political science.
    •    Cameron Mansi of Kell High School also won a $1,000 scholarship and intends to major in chemistry.
    •    Harper Tabb of The Walker School also won a $500 scholarship and intends to major in architecture.
